Hi, I'm Meng Chen, and my Chinese name is 陈蒙 (how to pronounce).

My work has centered on Conversational AI across three major shifts in the field—from neural networks, through pretrained models, to today's LLM-powered multi-agent systems. While the technologies have changed, my focus has remained on building practical dialogue systems that make communication easier and more efficient.

I am a Principal Applied Scientist at Oracle Health & AI, based in Australia. Since 2024, I have been developing LLM-powered multi-agent systems for healthcare. My current work focuses on Message Center AI, which assists clinicians in responding to patient messages about laboratory test results, medication management, conditions, and symptoms. The goal is to make patient communication more efficient while reducing clinicians' workload.

From 2018 to 2023, I led an applied AI team at Jingdong AI. We developed a smart customer service system for Jingdong's first-party retail business, handling after-sales enquiries about delivery, returns and exchanges, and price protection on a platform serving more than 500 million users. AlphaSales was a shopping assistant used by more than 2,000 merchants to answer customer questions about product details and promotions and to proactively recommend products. The Yanxi conversational AI platform enabled government and enterprise clients outside Jingdong to build their own customer service systems. I also led an AI outbound calling system for promotions, notifications, and follow-ups, which handled up to 20 million calls per day.

From 2013 to 2018, I was a Research Scientist at Dragon Research, Nuance Communications. I worked on large-scale cloud speech recognition systems supporting Dragon Drive and Dragon Dictation, as well as automotive solutions for customers including Daimler, BMW, Audi, and GM.

Alongside my industry work, I remain involved in academic research and service. I have published more than 50 papers in leading conferences and journals, including AAAI, IJCAI, CVPR, ACM Multimedia, TMM, ACL, NAACL, EACL, COLING, ICASSP, Interspeech, and CIKM. I regularly serve as a reviewer and Program Committee member for several of these conferences. I am also serving as an Area Chair for NeurIPS 2026 and as an External PhD Supervisor at RMIT University.

I received the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Progress Award in 2023 and the Best Demo Award at ACM Multimedia in 2021.

I graduated in 2012 from the Multimodal Intelligence Joint Lab of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where I was supervised by Prof. Helen Meng. Outside work, I enjoy traveling, reading, watching movies, and playing soccer. I have played amateur soccer for more than a decade and remain a devoted Manchester United supporter.
